R.I.P. W. Bro. Jim Hotston

Updated: May 11, 2023

The members of Neleus Lodge were devastated when W. Bro. Jim Hotston passed away suddenly on 17th March 2023.

After leaving school in 1959 Jim secured a 5 year mechanical engineering indentured apprenticeship with Associated British Foods. When he was 24 he applied for a job with MacFarlane Lang in Osterley who were part of a large company called United Biscuits. He was very successful there and held many positions, ending up being Chief Engineer.

W. Bro. Jim Hotston became a Freemason in 1981 and was initiated into Lodge of Good Fellowship No. 3655 and was WM in 1986. He was elected Treasurer of that Lodge in 1988 and that is where he remained until the lodge handed its warrant over to the Masonic University Scheme in 2013. Jim joined Neleus Lodge in May 2007 and Neleus Chapter in 2012. W. Bro. Jim became our Worshipful Master in 2010 and at his passing had been our Director of Ceremonies for a number of years.

When he retired he volunteered for Thames Valley Police and as a thank you for his diligent service they escorted the funeral procession from his home in Iver to Breakspear Crematorium, Ruislip where a Guard of Honour consisting of around 30 Thames Valley Police Cadets formed a great fitting tribute of respect to departed merit.
